Fort Russell Township is located in Madison County, Illinois, in the United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 9,146 and it contained 3,903 housing units.[2]

History

Fort Russell Township takes its name from Fort Russell (est. 1812), which was named for Col. William Russell.[3]

Geography

According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of 37.16 square miles (96.2 km2), of which 36.69 square miles (95.0 km2) (or 98.74%) is land and 0.47 square miles (1.2 km2) (or 1.26%) is water.[2]
