Knobel is an impact crater in the Mare Tyrrhenum quadrangle of Mars, located at 6.7°S latitude and 226.8°W longitude and is in the northern end of Terra Cimmeria. It is 128.6 kilometers in diameter and was named after Edward Knobel, and the name was approved in 1973 by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature (WGPSN).[1]

Nearby named craters include Herschel to the west-northwest, Gale to the east-northeast, the Lasswitz-Wien crater pair to the southeast and nearly meets with Robert Sharp to the north.

A smaller crater lies southeast of Knobel with an almost faded rim in the west. In the middle is a central peak mainly originated from an asteroid impact.
