The 2000 United States presidential election was held on Tuesday, November, 7, 2000 as part of the concurrent United States presidential election. Oregon voters chose seven electors, or representatives to the Electoral College, who voted for President and Vice-President.
Oregon has been a blue state over recent years as it has voted for the Democratic Party in every presidential election since 1988 and Democrats have won every statewide election held after 2002. However, in 2000, Gore won by a small margin, partly because of a strong showing by Ralph Nader. Over the next two election cycles, the state would trend Democratic. Almost eighty percent of registered voters came out to vote on election day, the highest in the country.
