Rural Municipality of Lajord No. 128

Lajord No. 128 (2006 population 977) is a rural municipality in south-eastern Saskatchewan, Canada, covering 943.87 square kilometers in area. The rural municipality maintains its office in Lajord, Saskatchewan.[1] The rural municipality, in conjunction with the provincial government, is in charge of the maintenance of highways in its area. The municipality provides policing, fire protection and municipal governance for the rural district, with a reeve as its administrator.

The local Hutterite colony and farm have been based in Lajord since 1979.

Heritage properties

There are three historical building located within the rural municipality:

  • Church and Grotto in St. Peter's Colony (now called St. Peter's Colony) - Constructed in 1905 as a church and shrine of our Lady of Lourdes.[4]
  • Kronau Cemetery Site (formerly called Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery; and now called the Kronau Bethlehem Heritage Cemetery) - Constructed in 1896, by early German-Russian Lutheran homesteaders. The cemetery is near the site of a former one room school house where services were held until a church was constructed. The cemetery is located near the hamlet of Kronau.[5]
