Kakdwip is a city of South 24 Parganas district in the Indian State of West Bengal. It is situated on the eastern banks of the Hooghly River quite near where the river meets the Bay of Bengal. It is the headquarters of the Kakdwip subdivision and also the seat for the Sub-Divisional Court. The Sundarban Police District is responsible for law enforcement in the city.
Demographics
As per 2011 Census of India, Kakdwip city had a total population of 19,368, of which 9,896 (51%) were males and 9,472 (49%) were females. Population below 6 years was 1,872. A total of 14,173 people were literate (81.00 % of the population over 6 years).[1]

Spirituality & Culture
The Yogiraj Shyamacharan Sanatan Mission is located in the city, and is a centre for the spread and preservation of Kriya yoga of Lahiri Mahasaya. The institute campus also hosts a temple of Lahiri Mahasaya.
