Kalimpong I (community development block) is an administrative division of Kalimpong district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Kalimpong police station serves this block. Headquarters of this block is at Kalimpong.[1][2]

Geography

Kalimpong is located at 27°04′N 88°28′E / 27.06°N 88.47°E / 27.06; 88.47. Kalimpong I community development block has an area of 321.16 km2.[2]

Kalimpong I block consists of rural areas with 18 gram panchayats, viz. Bong, Kalimpong, Samalbong, Tista, Dr. Grahams Homes, Lower Echhay, Samthar, Neembong, Dungra, Upper Echhay, Seokbir, Bhalukhop, Yangmakum, Pabringtar, Sindepong, Kafer Kanke Bong, Pudung and Tashiding.

Demographics

As per 2011 Census of India Kalimpong I CD Block had a total population of 74,746, of which 67,957 were rural and 6,789 were urban. There were 37,750 males and 36,996 females. Scheduled Castes numbered 5,213 and Scheduled Tribes numbered 25,657.[3]

Literacy

As per 2011 census the total number of literates in Kalimpong I CD Block was 54,820 out of which 29,389 were males and 25,431 were females.[3]
