The Pink Line (पिंक लाइन) is a line of the Delhi Metro, a rapid transit system in Delhi, India. It is being constructed as part of the Delhi Metro Phase III network development plan. It consists of 38 metro stations from Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar, both in North Delhi. Upon completion, the Pink Line with a length of 58.59 kilometres (36.41 mi), will be the longest line in Delhi Metro, breaking the record set by the operational Blue Line. It will be mostly elevated and will cover Delhi in an almost 'U' shaped pattern. The Pink Line is also known as the Ring Road Line, as the entire line passes alongside the busy Ring Road in Delhi, that witnesses massive traffic jams everyday.

The Pink line has planned interchanges with most of the operational lines of the network such as the Yellow, Red, Blue, Orange Line and Violet lines, as well as with Hazrat Nizamuddin and Anand Vihar Terminal (Indian Railways) and the ISBTs at Anand Vihar and Sarai Kale Khan. The Pink Line will have highest point of Delhi Metro at Dhaula Kuan with a height of 23.6 metres, passing over the Dhaula Kuan grade separator flyovers and the Airport Express Line.[1]

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) commenced trial runs on the 6.5 km elevated stretch between Shakurpur and Mayapuri stations of the Pink line on 22 June 2017.[2][3][4][5] Progress of civil works up to June 2018 is 98.67%.[6] The line is planned to be opened in stages by December 2018 (except Trilokpuri to Mayur Vihar Pocket-1 section due to land issue at the former). The first section on the Pink Line become operational from 14 March 2018 between Majlis Park to Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus, thereafter the section between Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus and Lajpat Nagar was opened on 6 August 2018. The section between Shiv Vihar and IP Extension and Lajpat Nagar to Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 is expected to be opened to public by December 2018.[7]

Construction status

The total length of the line is 58.596 km, out of which 39.479 km is elevated and 19.117 km is underground. There are 38 stations in the Pink Line, out of which 26 are elevated and 12 are underground.

The section between Majlis Park to Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus of the Pink Line was opened to public on 14 March 2018 and the section between Durgabai Deshmuk South Campus to Lajpat Nagar was opened on 6 August 2018.

Other sections of Pink line is planned to be opened in stages by December 2018. The sections between Lajpat Nagar to Mayur Vihar Pkt-1 is expected to be opened by October 2018 and Shiv Vihar to Trilokpuri are expected to be opened by September 2018.[8]

Section between Trilokpuri to Mayur Vihar Pkt-1 is expected to be completed later on due to land acquisition issue at Trilokpuri.
