The Delhi Monorail was a monorail system proposed, but never built, for the city of Delhi that would have operated as Delhi Metro rail lines.

Lines

The first proposed line was as follows with work planned to start in mid-2013

It was planned to be complete by 2017 at a cost government Rs.2235 crores. It was expected to connect densely populated Delhi areas where Metro could not reach. It was to have connected 3 Metro Lines: Red line (Dilshad Garden to Rithala) at Shastri Park .Blue Line (Anand Vihar to Dwarka Line) at Nirman Vihar and proposed Mukundpur to Yamuna Vihar at TriLokPuri. It was to operate in East New Delhi by end of 2017.

[1][2] Three lines were proposed in Phase I are as follows:[3]

Total length of Phase I would be 47.8 km.

Other Lines

Other lines which were being proposed in addition to Phase I are:[4]

Status

Only the feasibility study has been completed for Phase-I corridor(s) to date (late 2017) and the project has come to halt. Given the problems and low ridership that have plagued the Mumbai Monorail, there appears to be little appetite at Government level to resurrect the concept in Delhi.[5]
