The Changsha Metro (officially 长沙轨道交通; chángshā guǐdào jiāotōng; also called 长沙地铁; chángshā dìtiě) is a rapid transit system in Changsha, the capital city of Hunan province in China. The first operational line, Line 2, commenced service on April 29, 2014, making Changsha the 18th city in mainland China to open a rapid transit system.[3] A second line, Line 1, commenced service in 2016. As of October 2018, four additional lines and an extension to Line 1 are under construction.

Line 1

Line 1 construction began in 2010 and was opened on June 28, 2016.[3][4] Line 1 has a line length of 23.62 kilometres (14.68 mi) with 20 stations, of which 1 is elevated and 19 are underground.[5] The construction budget was 14.2 billion RMB.[3] A 9.9-kilometre (6.2 mi) extension to Line 1 is under construction, adding 5 stations north of its current terminal at Kaifu District Government; it will open to the public in 2022. Line 1 is colored red on system maps.

Line 2

Line 2 is also known as Huangxing line, running from west to east Changsha. It was opened on April 29, 2014 and extended in December 2015. The line is 26.6 kilometres (16.5 mi) long with 23 stations. Line 2 is colored light blue on system maps.

Lines under construction

Line 3

Line 3 started construction on January 3, 2014. It will open to the public in 2019. It will have a total length of 36.4 kilometers along 25 stations. It will travel between Shangtang station and Guangsheng station. Line 3 will be colored yellow-green on system maps.

Line 4

Line 4 started construction on December 31, 2014. It will open to the public in December 2018.[6] It will have a total length of 33.6 kilometres (20.9 mi) along 25 stations. It will travel between Guanziling station and Dujiaping station. Line 4 will be colored purple on system maps.

Line 5

Line 5 started construction in 2015. It will open to the public in late 2020. It will have a total length of 22.5 kilometres (14.0 mi) along 18 stations. It will travel between Shidai Yangguang Avenue station and Panlong Road station. Line 5 will be colored yellow on system maps.

Line 6

The middle section of Line 6 started construction on December 28, 2016. It will open to the public in 2021. It will have a total length of 30.4 kilometres (18.9 mi) along 20 stations. It will travel between Dongsi Road station and West Lugu station. Line 6 will be colored dark blue on system maps.
