- Cape Verde ratified two UN protocols, the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the Involvement of Children in Armed Conflict and the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography
- The aerodrome of Boa Vista became an airport, it is now known as Aristides Pereira International Airport
- Construction of the neighborhood of Cidadela began in Praia
- June 24: A Penumbral lunar eclipse took place and was mainly visible, it occurred manly after sunset in the second third of the evening hours after 19:00 and after 21:00[1]
- December: The federal government prohibited the killing of turtles by law, per their participation in the Convenção sobre Diversidade Biológica in 1995 e a Convenção sobre Comercio Internacional de Espécies de Fauna e Flora Selvagem Ameaçadas de Extinção (CITES).[2]
