  • AC Brasilim football (soccer) club of Monte Vaca of Fogo Island established
  • Sal Island Cup held its first edition
  • Santiago North Zone held its first edition - no club would be allowed into the national championships until 2003.
  • Santiago South Zone football (soccer) competitions were not held
  • January/February: Continuation of full competition of the Santo Antão Island League.
  • July 19: FC Praia Branca football (soccer) club of São Nicolau Island established
  • Summer: GD Amarantes won their only title since independence for the Cape Verdean Football Championships season[4]
