  • Sal (now Amílcar Cabral International Airport) was the stop of a Friendship Flight (Voo da amizade) between Portugal and Brazil, only Brazilian and Portuguese citizens or foreigners with permanent residence in Brazil and Portugal could use those flights, they were popular due to their low fares. Cape Verde was a Portuguese overseas province at the time.
  • São Pedro Airport (now Cesária Évora Airport) first opened, the country's second airport to be opened
  • A species of worm snails or worm shells Stephopoma mammillatum were described, it was first founded in the waters or shores of the archipelago[2]
  • December 10: Section of Gil Eanes Lyceum in Praia becomes Praia National Lyceum (Liceu Nacional da Praia), today known as Liceu Domingos Ramos[3]

  • Spring: CS Mindelense won their 19th and seventh straight regional title for São Vicente
  • Spring: CD Travadores won their regional title for Santiago
  • Spring/Summer: CS Mindelense won their third colonial championship title[4]
