- Banco Nacional Ultramarino issued a bronze 50 centavos and nickel-bronze 5 escudos for the Cape Verdean escudo
- Living conditions improved in Mindelo as some aid were brought by Cape Verdean emigrants from the United States and Europe, later it was brought to the rest of the archipelago
- Restoration works for Fort Real de São Filipe on Santiago Island began
- April 13: A Total lunar eclipse took place and was mainly visible, it started at around 1:30 and finished at around 6:00 before sunrise[1]
- September 1: The cargo ship Cabo Santa Maria was wrecked and ran aground at Praia de Atalanta in the north of the island, its ruins now rusty can still be seen today.[2]

- Spring/Summer: CS Mindelense won their sixth colonial title for the Cape Verdean Football Championships[4]
