- The first attacks ordered by the guerrillas of the PAIGC in Praia on Santiago Island, this started the struggle against the oppression of Portugal, months later the Guinea-Bissau War of Independence broke out in Portuguese Guinea (now Guinea-Bissau), due to logistical reasons, Cape Verde didn't take part
- The port at Porto Novo completed on the island of Santo Antão, the village name of Carvoeiros changed its name to Porto Novo
- Porto Grande near Mindelo expanded
- July 31: an annular solar eclipse took place in parts of the municipality of Praia, the only part of Santiago where the annular solar eclipse happened and parts of Fogo and Brava, the remainder of the archipelago was as a partial eclipse.[1]
- August: Demonstrations over the elevation of the Minister of Overseas in Assomada
- August 15: A Penumbral lunar eclipse took place and was mainly visible, it was in progress at sunset and finished at around 19:30[2]
- September 8: Praia National Lyceum becomes Liceu Adriano Moreira under provincial order no. 6429, the lyceum today is Liceu Domingos Ramos

- February 26: Juventude (Sal) football (soccer) club established
- Spring: Mindelense won the title for São Vicente
- Spring/Summer: MIndelense won the 4th colonial title for the Cape Verdean Football Championships
- November 18: Associação Académica do Fogo, a football (soccer) club established
- December 15: Académica da Praia, a football (soccer) club established[3]
