Baraut

Baraut is located at 29.6°N 77.16°E, covering an area of 10.36 square kilometers (4.00 sq mi) and lying between the Ganga and Yamuna river plains. Its average elevation is 231 m (758 feet). Baraut is served by two state highways, SH-57 and SH-82.

Baraut is located 55 kilometers (34 mi) from Delhi (the national capital of India) and 55 kilometers from Meerut, and is within the National Capital Region (NCR). It is within Baghpat district; prior to that, within Meerut district. Baraut is well linked by road to Binauli to the east, to Chhaprauli to the northwest, and Kotana to the west.

According to provisional report of 2011 census, Baraut city had a population of 103,764 with estimated male, female, and child (0–6) populations of 55,013, 48,751, and 14,149 respectively. The overall literacy rate for the district was 61.41%. 70.22% males and 51.12% females were literate.[1]

Baraut is one of the 410 constituencies of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, India. The first election of this assembly constituency was held in 1957 after the "DPACO (1956)" (delimitation order 1956) was passed in 1956.[2] After the 1969 elections, the constituency was dissolved. In 2008, when the "Delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies Order, 2008" was passed, the constituency was re-constituted and elections were held in 2012. The constituency is assigned identification number 51.

Baraut is part of the National Capital Region (NCR).

Baraut is a multi-religious place with 32 temples, 21 mosques, 1 gurdwara, and 2 churches in Baraut city.[3]

Despite a low literacy rate for females and a low overall literacy rate, Baraut city is continually seeing growth in the education sector.

Several C.B.S.E. schools have started separate girls’ schools, including Alpine Public School, Growell School, Johar Public School, J.P. Public School, Vidyasagar School, Doon Public School, and Vanasthali Public School.

Christu Jyoti Convent Senior Secondary School is one of two ICSE senior secondary schools in Baghpat district, the other is located in Baghpat city.

There are branches of popular brands of primary and secondary schools in or near Baraut, including Zee Learn's Kidzee Play School and Mount Litera Zee School.

Although the city was famous for general (non-professional) higher-degree courses at its own popular and established schools—such as Janta Vedic College, Digambar Jain College, Babu Kamta Prasad Jain Mahila Vidhyalaya—students, after passing their intermediate (+2), often went to the metropolitan cities for higher studies. However, in recent years, Baraut city has seen growth in graduation and post-graduation colleges offering professional and management courses. The list of such colleges includes Gayatri Devi College of Education, Kalindi College, Baraut College of Education.

Baraut city has seen a growth in professional computer education.

Baraut is a commercial hub in various segments, with many long-established agriculture and dairy production facilities. Most of the people from nearby villages purchase their supplies in Baraut, as well as depending on the town to meet their educational and medical needs.

Although healthcare facilities in the city include reasonably large hospitals, standards of care are extremely poor and unreliable. For most life-threatening conditions, people have to go to nearby big cities like Delhi or Meerut. Baraut also has practitioners of homeopathic, and Ayurvedic medicine.
