All statistics correct as of 28 November 2017.

The 2017 Liga 2 season was the inaugural season of the second-tier competition in Indonesia with the new name Liga 2.[1] Borneo F.C. as the defending champions and currently play in the top flight of Indonesian football, Liga 1. Starting this season Liga 2 was an under-25 tournament (born on or after 1 January 1992), with a maximum of five overage players allowed.[2]

On 3 November 2014, PSSI announced that starting from 2015 season, teams are not allowed to use foreign players and only allowed to have a maximum of 30 players.[3]

Persebaya Surabaya won the title after a 3–2 win over PSMS Medan in 2017 Liga 2 Final at Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium, Bandung on 28 November 2017.

Format

The league was divided into eight groups containing 7-8 teams each. Top two teams from each group qualified for the next round, while teams ranked fifth and below were relegated to the newly formed lower league that contains all 36 relegated teams. The new league replaced Liga 3 as the third tier competition in Indonesia, and the existing Liga 3 was demoted to the fourth tier, forming Liga 4. This arrangement was done to reduce the huge number of participants (61) to 24 clubs in the 2018 season.[4][5][6]

Teams

55 teams from the 2015 Liga Indonesia Premier Division were rejoined with 4 teams who pulled out from that season. Persebaya Surabaya, previously not recognized, was also participate this season.[7]
