Nottinghamshire grenst aan South Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire en Derbyshire. De graafstadhoofdplaats was oorspronkelijk in Nottingham maar tegenwoordig is het council gevestigd in West Bridgford.

De stad Nottingham was onderdeel van Nottinghamshire tot 1998 maar is nu een unitary authority binnen het graafschap.

Demografie

Van de bevolking is 16,4 % ouder dan 65 jaar. De werkloosheid bedraagt 3,3 % van de beroepsbevolking (cijfers volkstelling 2001).

Het aantal inwoners steeg van ongeveer 735.100 in 1991 naar 748.510 in 2001.
