MSX character set

MSX character sets are a group of single- and double-byte character sets developed by Microsoft for MSX computers. They are based on code page 437.

Character sets

Since not all of the graphic characters have a corresponding Unicode representation, they cannot be portably displayed in a web browser. The following table shows for MSX characters the corresponding Unicode glyph and code point, if there is any; otherwise the Unicode replacement character U+FFFD (�) and a hyphen for the code point. Control characters and other non-printing characters are represented by their names.

The MSX terminal is compatible with VT-52 escape codes, and has the following additional control codes:

• GRAPH: allows you to display an extended graphic character
• HOME: places the cursor at top left of the screen
• INS: insert key
• SELECT: Special key. Its function can vary amongst applications
• CTRL+B: moves the cursor to the previous word
• CTRL+E: deletes the line to the right of the cursor
• CTRL+F: moves the cursor to the next word
• CTRL+N: moves the cursor to the end of the line
• CTRL+U: deletes the line where the cursor is located
• CURSOR RIGHT: moves the cursor one character to the right
• CURSOR LEFT: moves the cursor one character to the right
• CURSOR UP: moves the cursor one character to the right
• CURSOR DOWN: moves the cursor one character to the right
