Arizona's current senior senator is Republican Jeff Flake (serving since 2013). On September 4, 2018, Jon Kyl, who served as the junior senator from Arizona until 2013, was appointed to fill the class 3 seat, which had been vacant since John McCain's death on August 25, 2018. Kyl has suggested he will serve until the ending of the 115th United States Congress on January 3, 2019.
