The 2017–18 Brava Island Championships season was the competition of the second and third tier football in the island of Brava, Cape Verde. Its started on December 23,, 2017 and finished March 25, 2018, earlier than last season. The championship was governed by the Brava Regional Football Association (Associação Regional de Futebol da Brava, ARFB).[1] SC Morabeza won their 10th and recent title, also it was their next in eight years,[2] Morabeza will play in Group C.
Sporting Brava was yet again the defending team of the title. A total of 7 clubs participated in the competition. 157 goals were scored, fewer than the previous two seasons. All matches were played at Estádio Aquiles de Oliveira in Nova Sintra.
Overview
Its scoring became moderate and almost normal to other championships, the national level. The positions were head to head, Morabeza and Sporting held it for some weeks until the last round when Morabeza clinched first place and won their next regional title. Morabeza finished with a club record of 31 points, fourth in Brava behind Sporting's three seasonal totals, 32 (in 2014), 34 (in 2016) and 36 (in 2017), also it is shared with Juventude's total made in 2013. Morabeza also made another record, 10 wins in a season, a club record sharing with Juventude's 2013 total and Sporting's 2014 and 2018 total as third in the region, it is behind Sporting's 11 (2016) and 12 (2017) wins.
What ended is Sporting Brava's unbeaten run which numbered 55 matches, the club's next loss in a few season was on February 24, a 3-1 loss to Juventude da Furna. Of any second tier competitions in the archipelago, it is behind Académica do Porto Novo's (of Santo Antão South) 56 made from March 5, 2011 to April 23, 2016. It is higher than the unbeaten runs made by Sporting Praia and CS Mindelense. Later at the nationals.[2] On the opposites, Académica finished seven, a lower position where they never ended since the 2012 expansion to seven clubs.
Sporting Brava scored the most number of goals numbering 44, second was Morabeza with 22 and third was Benfica with 24, the last two were Corôa with six and Académica with only 9. On the opposites, Académica conceded the most with 42, second was Corôa with 32. The least was Morabeza with only eight goals.[2]
The 2017-18 Brava's opening tournament and cup competitions were held for the season. The championship had no breaks for the season.
