Overview

Académica do Porto Novo was again the defending team of the title for the sixth time. Three clubs withdrew, a repeat of a withdrawal from Tarrafal FC de Monte Trigo and two additional, Lajedos who was runner up last season and Associação Santo André, the region's least successful club. Their reasons was in part due to financial and material. This reduced to six clubs that participated in the competition, it would be an 10-round and a 50-match season, After returning from being absent last season, Marítimo Porto Novo returned to the competition.

A total of 112 goals were scored in the season, fewer less than last season. Académica led almost for the entire season. Not a single loss was made again for Académica Porto Novo. At the end of the season, it still holds the records for an unbeaten streak at home numbering 40. Académica scored 51 again, and made it the second highest for the club once more, Académica won their eighth consecutive title and any of the island leagues, other clubs who won eight consecutive titles were Brava's No Pintcha (1994-2001). Second in goal scoring were Marítimo and Inter with 17, about a third less than Académica's.

The championship season started right after the beginning of the regional cup competition, especially the north of the island where it started before its Premier and Second Division season. The first weeks of February and March were on a break due to the regional cup competition. The remaining cup competition, the semis and the finals finished after the end of the championships as to Santo Antão North.
