The season started on December 2, 2017 and finished on March 25, 2018.[1] The competition was organized by the Sal Regional Football Association (Associação Regional de Futebol de Sal, ARFS).[2] GD Palmeira won their third title, their next title in 18 years and their national participation currently participating in Group C at the 2018 Cape Verdean Football Championships. Its matches were played at Estádio Marcelo Leitão.

Overview

For the last time, Académico do Aeroporto was the defending team of the title. It was the third season that the Premier Division featured eight clubs and 14 matches each club with a total of 48 matches, only Palmeira achieved the record number of points with 32, since the transition from 2 to 3 points for a win min the 1990s. The number of goals were 168, slightly more than last season and an average of 3.5 per match.

Second placed Santa Maria scored the number of goals numbering 39, one less than last season, second were Palmeira and Juventude with 3. Both Académica Sal and Os Gaviões scored the least with nine. On the opposites, both ASGUI and Os Gaviões conceded the most with 35, second most was Académica with 24, Palmeira conceded the least with ten.

Surprisingly Santa Maria (2nd), Juventude (3rd) and Florença (5th) finished in the same positions as they did last season. Also Florença made no draws this season and was the next club to do so with the last being ASGUI in 2016.

Florença was Sal's seventh club to spend their third season in the second tier competition and the first in the Premier Division. Gaviões became the eighth and recent club to spend their second season at the second tier competition.

Gaviões finished last and the third club ever to relegate and the second of the clubs who first participated in 2014, they will participate again in the Second Division next season.
