The 2016–17 Brava Island League season was the competition of the second and third tier football in the island of Brava, Cape Verde Its started on 21 January[1] and finished on 30 April 2017, later than last season. The championship was governed by the Brava Regional Football Association (Associação Regional de Futebol da Brava, ARFB).[2] Sporting Brava won their fourth and recent title.[3]

Sporting Brava was yet again the defending team of the title. A total of 7 clubs participated in the competition. 191 goals were scored, fewer than the previous two seasons. All matches were played at Estádio Aquiles de Oliveira in Nova Sintra.

Overview

As Fogo saw a couple of record breaking matches during the season but fewer than the previous, Brava only had three this time. The first highest scoring match was Académica defeating Benfica 6-0 on February 26, the rest were made by Sporting, first they defeated Corôa 9-1 the 7th round, then 0-12 over Benfica at the 12 round and the last, the second challenge with Corôa defeating that club 2-16 and became the region's highest scoring match of the season. Second straight time the highest match that had 16 goals. It made Benfica Brava had their worst season ever, this time not a win was made, the club thought conceded 53 goals, fewer than last season and became second ahead of Corôa. Unlike its earlier season's, Juventude da Furna's season was not as successful as they finished 5th with 13 points and had 3 wins and 4 losses, they scored 22 goals and conceded 31.

Sporting Brava was at the number one spot the whole season, also the club made their best season ever with all of its matches ended in victories, also the club had the 49th unbeaten match and made it another club record. Also Sporting finished with 36 points and became a regional record, beating their 34 the season before. Since the 2012 expansion to seven team, it is the only club having 36 points to date on the island. Later at the nationals, Sporting Brava played in Group A.

Sporting Brava scored the most number of goals numbering 67 which was another club record, Académica was second with 30, the last two were 3rd place Nô Pintcha with 16 and Benfica with only nine, another worst for that club. Sporting conceded the fewest numbering seven, Corôa conceded the most with 56.

The 2016-17 Brava's opening tournament and cup competitions were not held for the season. The championship had no breaks for the season.
