The 2017 Santiago South Super Cup was the annual and a single knockout match in the island of Fogo featuring the champion of the 2016-17 Premier Division Vulcânicos and the winner of the cup competition Académica do Fogo.[1] The match also formed a part of the Vulcânicos–Académica do Fogo rivalry.

The super cup was played as did in the previous editions at Estádio 5 de Julho east of the center of São Filipe.

The finals were listened on radio.

It was the next Super Cup match in about three seasons, the 2014 edition was not held due to the cancellation of the cup competition, the 2015 edition was not held due to that Pico do Fogo erupted, lava flows occurred for nearly a month while the eruption continued until February, it also canceled the regional cup competition. The 2016 edition was not held as the regional cup final had no winner and that tournament was abandoned.

Match

Summary

The match was played during the afternoon hours. Midfielder Ká of Vulcânico scored the first super cup goal. Sy tied the match at the 22nd minute. Another midfielder Batatinha returned Vulcânico's lead with another goal scored at the 30th minute. Académica's Fifa tied the match for the second time with a penalty kick scored at the 45th minute. Later in the second half, Ká (of Vulcânico) scored another goal, a penalty kick at the 46th minute. Académica scored another goal at the 71st minute by Sy and kept their super cup title chance for the remaining minute. Their possible luck ran out as Branco, the defender scored the team's fourth goal at the 90th minute and not long afterwards, Vulcânico won another super cup title for the island.
