Readings

Usage notes

This is one of only three everyday kanji with a 5 morae reading, and one of only two nouns, namely  (みことのり) (mikotonori). The only other kanji with a 5 morae reading are , in the verb  (うけたまわ) (uketamawaru), and  (こころざし) (kokorozashi), and no everyday kanji have a 6 or more morae reading.

The unusually long reading is due to it representing a triple compound word, analyzed as  () (こと) (のり) (mikotonori), yielding 1+2+2=5.
