Steam plate cake (commonly known as Kinnathappam in India) is a popular traditional sweet cake widely used in North Malabar, Kerala. There are two variants of Kinnathappam. One is white and another is black. The white Kinnathappam is widely made in central Kerala and the black version is baked in northern Kerala. The process of cooking black Kinnathappam is quite long[1][2] but the white variant is much easy to cook and it is very soft compared to black variant.
