The 2018 Piala Indonesia is the eighth edition of Piala Indonesia, the national cup in Indonesian football.[1][2] 128 teams were accepted into the tournament, and it began with the first round on 8 May 2018, and concluded with the final in December 2018 or January 2019.[3] This year tournament winner would not qualified for the 2019 AFC Cup, but next year winner would have qualified.[4]

Winner of the 2012 Piala Indonesia, Persibo Bojonegoro were the defending champions,[2] as there were no competition from 2013 to 2017 for various reasons.[5][6] But they were eliminated in the first round by Madura United.

Format and seeding

Teams enter the competition at various stages, as follows:[1][7]

  • First phase (one-legged fixtures, the lower league team as home team)
    • First round: 128 teams from Liga 1, Liga 2, and Liga 3 divided into 16 zones, start the tournament
    • Second round: the 64 winners face each other according to their zone
    • Third round: the 32 winners face each other according to their zone
  • Second phase (two-legged fixtures)
    • Round of 16: the 16 third round winners are inserted into a bracket
    • Quarter-finals
    • Semi-finals

First round

The first round was featuring 128 teams. The first round matches were played from 8 May to 2 September 2018.[8] Match list sorted by zone.[7] All times are WIB (UTC+7).

Second round

The second round will be featured by 64 teams which were the winners of the first round. If the fixtures resulting in a draw (after normal time), it will go to a replay, played at the venue of the away team, at a later date. The second round matches will be played from TBA. All times are WIB (UTC+7).

Third round

The third round will be featured by 32 teams which were the winners of the second round. If the fixtures resulting in a draw (after normal time), it will go to a replay, played at the venue of the away team, at a later date. The third round matches will be played from TBA.
