The football rivalry between Vulcânicos (or Vulcânico) and Académica do Fogo is the main rivalry of the island of Fogo and one of the largest in Cape Verde. It is also the island's longest rivalry and forms a part of the Fogo derby (Derby do Fogo).
History
After Académica Fogo was founded in 1962, there had been around 100 matches that featured Vulcânicos (or Vulcânico) and Académica, there were also around 105 matches with the cup and opening tournament/association cup competitions.
The last time Vulcânico defeated Académica Fogo was at a 1st round match of the 2016-17 season while the last time Académica Fogo defeated Vulcânico was in March 2015. Its four matches up to the 2016-17 season ended in a draw.
Cultural rivalry
The rivalry in part is also cultural. is an affiliate to Académica de Coimbra in Portugal. while Académica do Fogo is the third most successful on the island.
Football rivalry
Académica Fogo is the second most successful football club on the island and the third most popular[1] having won about 19 official regional titles (12 national and 70 regional) compared to Vulcânicos' 13 official regional titles, the other clubs is the island's second most popular club.
