Pasta alla Norma (pronounced [ˈpasta alla ˈnɔrma]) is one of the most known Italian pasta dish. Typical of the Sicilian cuisine[1] created originally in Catania, Sicily, Italy.
The original recipe is made with macaroni (typical italian pasta), tomatoes, fried aubergine (eggplant), grated ricotta salata cheese, and basil.
It is supposedly named Norma because of the exclamation pronounced by the italian writer Nino Martoglio that, tasting this dish, said "It's a Norma!", comparing it with the exceptional perfection of the Vincenzo Bellini opera Norma
