The Broad Exchange Building is a historical building located at 25 Broad Street, in the heart of the Financial District of Lower Manhattan, New York City. When built in 1900[2] it was the largest office building in Manhattan.[3] In 1997 it was renovated into luxury apartments.[2]

History

It was built by Clinton & Russell in 1900 to provide office space for financial companies including Paine Webber.[2] At the time of its completion it was the largest office building in Manhattan, with 326,500 sq ft of rentable space per floor. It was remortgaged in 1909 for USD$3.5m.[3]

In 1997, it was gutted and renovated into 347 luxury apartments.[2]

The building was designated as a landmark by the Landmarks Preservation Commission on June 27, 2000.

In 2005, it was purchased for USD $200 million.[4] Subsequently, negotiations over landmark decertification of portions of the building took place.
