Avinash Sachdev (born August 22, 1986), is an Indian television actor known for playing the character Dev in the Hindi soap opera Chotti Bahu[1] and Shlok in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?...Ek Baar Phir.[2]

Early life

Sachdev was born in Mumbai and brought up in Vadodara, Gujarat.[3] His parents desire was that he would be an IAS officer, but he had other interests. He won many pageant titles in Gujarat, and then shifted to his birth city where he acted in television commercials.[3]

Personal life

In 2012, Sachdev ventured into business, opening several fashion stores in Mumbai.[4] In 2015, he married his Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?...Ek Baar Phir co-star and television writer Shalmalee Desai.[5][6] They separated in 2017.[7]

Career

In the early days of Sachdev's career he was interested in filmmaking and modelling.[8] He also won several titles like Mr Baroda, Mr University, and Mr Gujarat (2004-2005) that compelled him to participate in the Gladrags Model Hunt.[8][9] Later, he took up acting projects to develop filmmaking skills.

Acting career

His first notable acting role was in a TVS Scooty commercial. Later he did several television commercials for Cadbury Dairy Milk, GRT Jewellers eBay and Sun Feast. Sachdev secured his first television role in the soap opera Karam Apna Apna (2006) and was finalised for the leading roles in Sapna Babul Ka...Bidaai and Mere Ghar Aayi Ek Nanhi Pari.[8][10] However, Dev in Chotti Bahu (2008) was his first leading role. It earned him an Indian Telly Award for Fresh New Face (2009) and a Zee Rishtey Award for Popular Male Face of the year 2009.[1] In 2013, he played the lead character Shlok Agnihotry in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?...Ek Baar Phir. [2] In 2015, Sachdev joined the cast of Qubool Hai Season 4 as the lead.[11] Balika Vadhu season 2 (2016) was his third television project with Sphere Origins.[12]

Directing career

Sachdev first worked as a volunteer assistant director on Hatim (2004) when he was 18 years old.[13] He also assisted Farhan Akhtar in Rock On!! (2008).[14] In 2016, Sachev made his directorial debut with a short online travel documentary, Mumbai to Ladakh, which was based on his personal road trip to Ladakh. In the same year, he released his second online travel documentary, Trek to Anjanari.

International tours and stage performances

Though Sachdev is not a frequent stage performer, he has participated in several world tours and concerts. In 2010, 2011 and 2012, he performed in Zee Night Concerts around the world along with Chotti Bahu co-star, Rubina Dilaik.[15][16] He participated in Zee Heroes with a Mamta Sharma concert (2012) [17] and Udit Narayan with Zee stars concert (2013) in South Africa.[18] Sachdev worked as an event manager in his last few Show Time Creations concerts held in South Africa.[19]

In 2017, primarily because of Sachdev's contribution to the Indian TV show Iss Pyar Ko Kya Naam Doon?.. Ek Bhar Phir (dubbed as Tatli Bela in Turkey), he became the second Indian actor after Bollywood legend Raj Kapoor to visit Azerbaijan.[20][21] The same year, he was invited to Turkey for a fan meet and greet event organised by Kanal 7.[22][23]
