Nakuul Mehta (born 17 January 1983)[1] is an Indian actor, dancer and model known for his role of Aditya Kumar in Star Plus's Pyaar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara. Currently, he is playing the role of Shivaay Singh Oberoi in Star Plus's Ishqbaaaz.

Early life

Mehta was born in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India. He descends from King Prithviraj Chauhan of Rajput Chauhan dynasty of Ajmer.[2] His father, Pratap Singh Mehta, is a veteran of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, while his great-great grandfather Laxmilal Mehta was the military-in-chief of the Mewar region.[3]

Mehta completed his Master of Commerce from Mumbai University. He was also trained in dance forms including jazz, hip hop, break, folk, salsa and contemporary. He is a trained ballroom dancer having learned under India's foremost ballroom teacher and Bollywood choreographer Sandip Soparrkar. He represented the state of Maharashatra in the AIDSF (All India Dance Sport Federation) championship in June 2011. He was a silver medalist in the Latin Ballroom Category (rumba) and is a gold medal winner in the Standard Ballroom category (waltz).[4]

Personal life

In 2012, Mehta married singer Jankee Parekh.[5]

Career

Mehta rose to fame with the role of Aditya Harish Kumar in hit show Pyaar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara.[6]

He did commercials, music videos, and was associated with theatre for a long time. After juggling this with his modelling career, he made his debut in Bollywood with the movie Haal E Dil opposite Amita Pathak.[7] He also appeared in the short film Avant Garde, which was showcased at film festivals across the globe.[8] In 2015, he hosted India's Got Talent season 6.[9]

He was then seen in the new original web-series I Don't Watch TV, published on the online content platform Arre. Produced by Timbuktu Films, it is a satire on the Indian TV industry and also stars Bollywood film critic Rajeev Masand.[10][11][12] The series showcases the day-to-day struggle of TV actors in a satirical manner. Besides Mehta, it also features popular TV actors like Disha Parmar, Sanaya Irani, Rithvik Dhanjani, Kritika Kamra, Drashti Dhami, and Karan Wahi.[13]

Mehta is currently seen opposite Surbhi Chandna in popular TV show Ishqbaaaz as Shivaay Singh Oberoi. He also appeared in the show's spin-off, Dil Boley Oberoi.
