- January 5 – Former Palawan Governor Joel Reyes has been released from detention after the Court of Appeals resolved in his favor a petition in connection with his murder case for the killing of broadcaster Dr. Gerry Ortega in 2011.[2]

- January 22 – The Mayon Volcano’s alert status was raised to Alert Level 4 due to intensified volcanic activities. The day before, the volcano shot 200 m (660 ft) to 500 m (1,600 ft) to the air and generated ash plumes that reached 1.3 km (0.81 mi) above the summit.[3][4] The province of Albay has declared a state of calamity days earlier on January 16, due to continuous volcanic activity.[5]
- January 23 – The Supreme Court (SC) has declared, the funding for the ₱3.8-billion Motor Vehicle License Plate Standardization Program (MVPSP), that clearing the way for the release to motorists of 700,000 license plates turned over by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) to the Land Transportation Office (LTO) as constitutional.[6]
- January 29 – The Office of the President has ordered a 90-day preventive suspension order against Overall Deputy Ombudsman Melchor Arthur Carandang for alleged grave misconduct and grave dishonesty for the unauthorized disclosures of the alleged bank transactions of President Rodrigo Duterte and his family.[7]

- January 31:
- A total lunar eclipse coinciding with a super moon and blue moon phenomenon was witnessed by many astronomers and skywatchers throughout the country.[8]
- Rafael Baylosis, a peace consultant of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP), together with his companion were arrested in Quezon City.[9]
February
- February 2 – President Rodrigo Duterte has signed Republic Act No. 10969 or the Free Irrigation Service Act, a law that waives irrigation fees for farmers who own 8 hectares of land or less.[10]
- February 6 – The Supreme Court upholds the constitutionality of the year-long extension of martial law in Mindanao on December 2017.[11]
- February 7 – The Supreme Court has ordered a halt on court proceedings on graft and usurpation of authority cases filed against former President Benigno Aquino III at the Sandiganbayan for his alleged role in the 2015 bloody Mamasapano anti-terror raid that killed the 44 SAF Troopers.[12]

- The Philippine Government has signed the administrative order to completely ban the deployment of all workers to Kuwait.[13] Following the February 9 confirmation of the death of a Filipina domestic worker in the gulf country allegedly due to abuse.[14]
- Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales ordered the dismissal from service of former Cebu governor and current 3rd District Representative Gwendolyn Garcia for grave misconduct in connection with the purchase of a sprawling property for close to ₱100 million.[15]
- February 19 – The Senate committee on national defense and security has begins its probe on the ₱15.5 billion-Frigate Acquisition Project (FAP) of the Philippine Navy with Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go in attendance and several Cabinet members present to support him.[16]
- February 26:
- The Senate has ordered the arrest of former Commission on Elections (COMELEC) chairman Andres Bautista over his non-attendance of the probe into his alleged ill-gotten wealth.[17]
- Former president Benigno Aquino III and former budget secretary Butch Abad were faced a House investigation into their administration's deployment of DengVaxia, a dengue vaccine, that is now at the center of a health scare.[18]
- February 28 – The U.S. Department of State has added seven organizations, including local terror group Maute, to its list of foreign terrorists and terrorist organizations due to their connection to the Islamic State (ISIS).[19]

- March 1 – President Rodrigo Duterte has signed Republic Act No. 10973, that restored the power of select officials of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to issue subpoenas on cases under investigation.[20]

- March 2 – The University of the Philippines (UP), the Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU), and the De La Salle University (DLSU) were joined the world's top universities in the recently released 2018 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject.[21]

- Voted 38-2, the House Committee on Justice has found probable cause in the impeachment complaint against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.[22]
- The Department of Justice (DOJ) has indicted 11 members of the Aegis Juris fraternity over the fatal hazing of University of Santo Tomas (UST) law freshman student Horacio "Atio" Castillo III in September last year.[23]
- The Asian Institute of Management (AIM) has launched ACCeSs@AIM, the first data science corporate laboratory in the Philippines.[24]
- March 9 – Former Vice President Jejomar Binay Sr. and his son, former Makati City mayor Jejomar Erwin "Junjun" Binay Jr., have been charged at the Sandiganbayan over the alleged anomalous procurement process in the construction of the Makati Science Building.[25]

- March 12:
- The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee has ordered the release of former Customs commissioner Nicanor Faeldon after he promised to Senator Richard Gordon that he will no longer engage in backtalking and will heed Senate summons.[26]
- The Department of Justice has cleared alleged drug lords Kerwin Espinosa, Peter Lim and 20 others of charges related to the narcotics trade due to lack of evidence.[27]
- March 14 – President Rodrigo Duterte has announced that the Philippines is withdrawing from the International Criminal Court (ICC), which is currently looking into whether it has jurisdiction to probe allegations of state sanctioned killings in his war on drugs.[28] The Philippines issued a formal notification of its withdrawal from the Roman Statute which was received by the Secretary-General of the United Nations on March 17. The effective date of the withdrawal shall be exactly one year from receipt of the notification.[29][30]
- March 17 – A Piper PA-23 passenger aircraft bound for Laoag International Airport in Ilocos Norte, Philippines, crashes upon take off from Plaridel Airport in Bulacan, killing all five people onboard as well as five on the ground.[31][32]

- March 26:
- The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has formally launched the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) for the law providing free higher education for students enrolled in state universities and colleges (SUCs) and local universities and colleges (LUCs).[33]
- The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (Central Bank of the Philippines) (BSP) announced the release of new peso coins which is feature the three of the country's national heroes and presented their new design.[34]
- March 28 – The Court of Tax Appeals has acquitted presidential son and former party-list representative Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo, who allegedly underdeclared his income and did not pay his correct taxes for 3 years.[35]
April
- April 2 – The Supreme Court (SC), sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) has started the manual recount of votes for the election protest of former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. against Vice President Leni Robredo. The recount to validate the results of the 2016 vice presidential election commenced with the counting of votes cast in Marcos' pilot provinces of Camarines Sur, Iloilo, and Negros Oriental.[36][37]
- April 11 – Retired policeman Wally Sombero has surrendered at the national police headquarters in Camp Crame in connection with a ₱50-million bribery scandal involving the illegal Chinese workers of Macau-based gambling tycoon Jack Lam in 2016.[38]

- April 16 – The Bureau of Immigration has arrested, Sis. Patricia Fox, a 71-year-old nun, who according to the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has been helping peasants and indigenous peoples for 27 years.[39]
- April 17 – The Supreme Court (SC) has declared, the Department of Justice's Department Circular Order No. 41 which is issued a watchlist order that barring the then former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and her husband Mike from leaving the country in 2011, as unconstitutional for violating a person's right to travel.[40]
- April 25 – The Ombudsman has filed graft and multiple counts of falsification charges against Quezon City Councilor Roderick Paulate for allegedly maintaining 30 ghost employees under the payroll of the city council in 2010.[41]

- April 26:
- Boracay was closed to tourists for six months and will undergo rehabilitation.[42] The closure was officially announced on April 4.[43][44] Checkpoints manned by police officers and soldiers would be set up at piers in Boracay to turn away visitors from the island. Passes would be given to residents of Boracay.[45] On the same day, President Rodrigo Duterte has Proclamation No. 475, that officially declared a state of calamity in three barangays in beach destination Boracay just as the island's 6-month shutdown began.[46]
- April 30 – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has released to the public the list of barangay chairpersons and councilmen allegedly involved in illegal drugs.[47]
May
- May 1 – President Rodrigo Duterte signs Executive Order No. 51, that prohibits illegal contracting and subcontracting.[48]

- The Supreme Court of the Philippines (SC) votes 8–6 to grant the quo warranto petition by the Solicitor General against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, removing her from office for violating requirements on the Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth.[49]
- The Philippines and Kuwait has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that will protect Filipino workers in the Gulf nation[50] ending a diplomatic crisis between the two countries.[51]

- May 21 – Senator Vicente Sotto III, was elected as the new Senate president, replacing Aquilino Pimentel III.[60]
- May 23 – Ozamiz City Councilor Ricardo "Ardot" Parojinog, who is being investigated for illegal firearms possession, was arrested in Taiwan, ending 10 months in hiding.[61]
- May 26 – Henry John Acorda, an overseas Filipino worker in Slovakia has died a few days after he was badly beaten up and kicked in the head while he tried to defend a couple of women they were harassing in the streets.[62]

- June 10 – Fr. Richmond Nilo of the Diocese of Cabanatuan, was gunned down by unknown assailant as he was preparing for evening mass at a small chapel in Zaragoza, Nueva Ecija at 6:05 pm.[63][64][65][66]
- June 25 – Six policemen were killed and 9 others were wounded in what was believed to be a "misencounter" with the Army in Villareal, Samar.[67]
- June 29 – President Rodrigo Duterte signs Republic Act No. 11053 or the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018, that bans hazing in all forms and imposing higher penalties for those who will be proved guilty of hazing.[68]

- July 2:
- The controversial Tanauan, Batangas mayor Antonio Halili is assassinated by an unknown sniper during an flag-raising ceremony, and becomes the 11th local government official to be killed in the War on Drugs.[69][70][71][72]
- The Bataan Coast Guard detains cruise ship MV Forever Lucky on suspicion of involvement in human trafficking. The National Bureau of Investigation rescues 139 alleged victims from the vessel and charges Johnny Cabrera, the alleged lessor of the ship.[73]
- July 3:
- Ferdinand Bote, Mayor of General Tinio, Nueva Ecija, is assassinated in an ambush.[74][75]
- The Consultative Committee (CONCOM) who tasked to review the Constitution has unanimously approved a draft of the proposed charter that allows for a shift to a federal form of government.[76]
- July 4 – Philippine soldiers clash with militants from the ISIL-affiliated Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), in the southern province of Maguindanao. The fighting began when BIFF militants attempted to occupy a town center, and lasted for 12 hours until the BIFF militants withdrew to the hills. Four militants were killed, while two militants, a Philippine soldier and a local militiaman were wounded.[77]
- July 7 – Alexander Lubigan, Vice Mayor of Trece Martires, Cavite, is assassinated in an ambush.[78]
- July 11 – Al-Rashid Mohammad Ali, Vice Mayor of Sapa Sapa, Tawi-Tawi, is assassinated in an ambush.[79]

August
- August 1 – A United States federal grand jury has indicted alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles and five others for money laundering by supposedly funneling some $20 million in Philippine public funds in and out of the US through a multi-year bribery and fraud scheme.[96]

- President Rodrigo Duterte has signed Republic Act No. 11055 or the Philippine Identification System Act, that seeking to create a unified and streamlined national identification system.[97][98][99]
- President Rodrigo Duterte has fired all board members of the Nayong Pilipino Foundation (NPF) for green-lighting a lease deal grossly disadvantageous to the government.[100]

- August 16 – An aircraft, a Boeing 737-800 operating Xiamen Airlines Flight 8667, crashed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Metro Manila and skidded off the runway while attempting to land on the airport.[108][109]

- August 25 – Teresita De Castro was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, following the ouster of the de facto Maria Lourdes Sereno via quo warranto.[111] Making her the first female Chief Justice in the history of the Republic of the Philippines.[112] She later took her office on August 28.[113]

- August 31 – President Duterte signed the Proclamation No. 572, declaring the amnesty of opposition Senator Antonio Trillanes IV as void because he supposedly did not fulfill all the necessary requirements.[115][116]
September
- September 5 – Mariano Blanco III, Mayor of Ronda, Cebu, is assassinated in his office.[117]
- September 11 – Voted 23-1, the House committee on justice rejected the impeachment complaints filed against Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Teresita de Castro and 6 associate justices.[118]

- September 14–17 – Typhoon Ompong officially as Typhoon Mangkhut hits Cagayan and creating widespread damage over Northern Luzon.[119]On September 17, the typhoon triggers a landslide in Itogon, Benguet, with more than 40 bodies found.[120] All mining activities were halted in the Cordillera region following the landslide.[121] As of September 18, the death toll of the typhoon was 81.[122] 59 others are still missing.[123]
- 17 – Former Army general and politician Jovito Palparan is convicted for the kidnapping and disappearance of students Sherlyn Cadapan and Karen Empeño in 2006.[124] He and two other associates are sentenced to life imprisonment.[125]

- As the country’s rice problem persists, President Duterte has returned the National Food Authority (NFA) to the Department of Agriculture (DA) along with two other agencies previously placed under the Office of the President (OP) throught Executive Order No. 62.[126]
- The Department of Justice has found probable cause to indict Chief Insp. Jovie Espenido, the Ozamiz City police chief, for homicide charges over a raid that left 6 people dead on June 1, 2017.[127]
- A landslide occurred in Naga, Cebu, killing at least 29 people.[128]
- September 21 – The Supreme Court (SC) has affirmed the acquittal of former First Lady and Ilocos Norte Representative Imelda Marcos in 33 criminal cases over alleged unlawful foreign exchange accounts amounting to millions of dollars she shared with husband and late former president Ferdinand Marcos in Geneva, Switzerland from 1973 to 1985.[129]
- September 22 – The special barangay and SK elections was held in Marawi.[130]
- September 25 – Senator Antonio Trillanes IV was arrested for rebellion charges in connection with the 2007 Manila Peninsula siege, and he became the second opposition senator to be arrested under the Duterte presidency.[131]
- September 27 – The Philippine government has partially lifted deployment restrictions for the Federated States of Micronesia which it imposed earlier this month, following the appeal of some overseas Filipino workers.[132][133]

- Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief of staff Carlito Galvez Jr. has officially declared the end of war between the AFP and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).[135]
- Japanese troops stormed a beach in Subic Bay, Philippines, in joint exercises with US and Filipino troops that officials said marked the first time Tokyo's armored vehicles rolled on foreign soil since World War II.[136]

- February 3, Boxing – Jerwin Ancajas knocks out Mexico’s Israel “Jiga” Gonzalez in the 10th round on the former's US debut to retain the IBF junior bantamweight crown at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.[153]
- February 9–25, Olympic Games – Two athletes represented the Philippines at the 2018 Winter Olympics held in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Asa Miller competed at Alpine skiing – Men' giant slalom event while Michael Christian Martinez competed at Figure skating – Men' singles event.[154]
- February 23, Multi-sport – The Philippine Olympic Committee held elections for the post of President and Chairman after the 2016 elections results were declared null and void by the Pasig Regional Trial Court. The court required Ricky Vargas and Abraham Tolentino to be candidates for the post of President and Chairman respectively.[155] Vargas and Tolentino won over incumbents Peping Cojuangco and Ting Ledesma.[156]

- April 3–8, Ice hockey – The Philippines hosts its first International Ice Hockey Federation-sanctioned event, the Top Division of the 2018 IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia at the SM Mall of Asia Ice Skating Rink in Pasay, Metro Manila.[159] Mongolia emerged as champions with Thailand finishing in second place. The host third in the tournament despite tying in points with Mongolia and Thailand due to goal differences.[160]

- July 2, Basketball – A bench-clearing brawl broke out between the Australia and Philippines men's national basketball teams during the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifier in Bocaue. With Australia leading by over 30 points with just over 4:00 left in the third quarter, play was halted for a foul. Australia's Daniel Kickert then swung his elbow at Roger Pogoy, immediately leading to both benches clearing and a melee spreading from the bench to one of the baskets. When order was restored and game officials reviewed video of the incident, a total of 13 players were ejected—four from Australia (including Kickert) and nine from the Philippines. This left the hosts with only three players to resume the game; after two of the remaining Philippines players fouled out, leaving that team with only one player, the officials called the game, with Australia winning 89–53.[172]
- July 15, Boxing – Manny Pacquiao won via technical knockout against Argentinian boxer Lucas Matthysse to retain WBA welterweight title in Malaysia.[173][174]
- July 19, Basketball – Ten Gilas Pilipinas players got suspended from international play for figuring in the infamous brawl that marred the FIBA World Cup Asia qualifier match between the Philippines and Australia last July 2 at the Philippine Arena.[175]

- January 11 – The Securities and Exchange Commission revokes the certification of incorporation it issued to Rappler, Inc. after it found the issuance of the media firm of Philippine Depositary Receipts to Omidyar Network to be in violation of the Constitution's provisions on foreign ownership saying that Rappler "sold control" to foreigners.[180][181][182][183]
- January 17 – Following the Securities and Exchange Commission of the Philippines' revocation of Rappler's license, the National Bureau of Investigation of the Philippines launches a probe into Rappler.[184]

- April 16 – Filipino journalist Manuel Mogato, wins the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for International Report along with Reuters colleagues Clare Baldwin and Andrew R.C. Marshall for their "relentless" reporting on deaths allegedly linked to President Rodrigo Duterte's war on drugs, Mogato is the fourth Filipino to win the Pulitzer Prize after Carlos Romulo (1942), Alex Tizon (1997), and Jose Antonio Vargas (2008).[193]

- April 30 – The Department of Tourism receives their ₱60,000,000 ad placement given to government-owned People's Television Network for airing it on Ben Tulfo's program Kilos Pronto produced by Bitag Media Unilimted, Inc. (in which the blocktimer sells its production time to the network); the contract was not supported with proper documents such as the Memorandum of Agreement and Certificate of Performance contrary to Section 4 of Presidential Decree No. 1445 and COA Circular No. 2012-001.[196] An investigation on the alleged advertisement anomaly is being conducted by Malacanang, Tourism seceretary Wanda Tulfo Teo said that Ben along with his brother Erwin Tulfo will return its ₱60 million ad placement from DOT to prove there was no anomaly in the advertisement deal and there was no conflict on the deal because it was a government-to-government deal between the DOT and PTV.[197] Teo was later resigned on May 8, because of the controversy.[198]
- May 6 – More than 1.5 million members joins the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) joined the Worldwide Walk to Fight Poverty held in Manila along Roxas Boulevard and in selected sites in the Philippines and abroad as the Worldwide Walk breaks the new Guinness record for the largest human sentence for the largest charity walk in a single venue and in the largest charity walk in multiple venues in 24 hours.[199][200][201][202]
- May 19 – Celeste Cortesi, a Filipino-Italian model, was crowned as Miss Philippines Earth 2018 during the coronation night of the Miss Philippines Earth 2018 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.[203]
- May 22 – Johanne Jazmin Tan Jabines, a third-year University of the Philippines student has bested six other young speakers from more than 50 countries to win the International Public Speaking Competition (IPSC) Grand Final at the Royal Institution in London.[204]
