Description

It was reported in February 2012 as one of six new lines under planning by the city's public transit planning authorities.[1] As of 2015, the line was renamed to Line 19[2] with the first phase starting construction in 2016 to be completed by 2020.[3] According to the most recent plan, the first phase will begin at Mudanyuan station and end at Xingong station.[4]

The express line is planned to run north-south west of the city centre, between Lines 16 and 4, through Haidian, Xicheng and Fengtai Districts. The line is planned to have 10 stations, over 22.4 km (13.9 mi).[5] The line was envisioned as a major relief line for the overcrowded Line 4 and more direct link to the Financial Street commercial district. The high anticipated demand prompted planners to suggest the line to use high capacity 8 car type A trains. To fulfill the line's purpose as a crosstown express line, services will operate up to 100 km/h (62 mph) and stations will be around 2.3 km (1.4 mi) apart on average.[6][7]

The second phase under planning consists of a northern extension. A branch line of northern extension will connect with the future rebuilt Qinghe Railway Station, which will be a station on the Beijing–Zhangjiakou Intercity Railway.[8] The long term plan envisions the line to connect Changping High-tech Park in the north to Lushui Road in Daxing in the south, creating a 60 km (37 mi) long line with trains running up to 120 km/h (75 mph) in the outer sections.[9]
