X Corps (India)

X Corps is a corps of the Indian Army. It is based in Bathinda and is a part of South Western Command. It was formed around 1976, and 18th Infantry Division was raised at about the same time. The 24th Infantry Division was formed in 1978. (Renaldi and Rikhye 2011, 26)

IX Corps XI Corps

X Corps had been raised at Bhatinda to reduce XI Corps' load, while the new corps took over south Punjab and north Rajasthan.[2] It has two of the army's Reorganised Army Plains Infantry Divisions (RAPIDs).

It consists of:

  • 16th Infantry Division headquartered at Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan
  • 18th Infantry Division (India) (RAPID) Kota, Rajasthan
  • 24th Infantry Division (India) (RAPID) Bikaner, Rajasthan. In 2001, 24th Artillery Brigade and 180th Armoured Brigade were at Bikaner, 25th Infantry Brigade was at Bathinda,Punjab and 83rd Infantry Brigade was at Lalgarh Jattan.[3]
  • 6th Independent Armoured Brigade Suratgarh, Rajasthan[4]
  • 615th Independent Air Defence Brigade (2 Battalions of Shilka & Tunguska and 1 Battalion of SA-6 and SA-13).
