IX Corps (India)

9 Corps (not IX Corps), also known as Rising Star Corps, was raised in 2005 and is the Indian Army's youngest corps[1] It is based at Yol cantonment in Kangra Valley, 10 kilometres (6 mi) southeast of Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh. It was raised on September 1, 2005 by splitting the southern formations of Nagrota-based XVI ‘White Knight’ Corps of the Udhampur-based Northern Command.[2] It is a part of Army's Chandimandir-based Western Command.[3] Its correct name is written as 9 Corps and not IX Corps.

  • 2 Independent Armored Brigade (former 252nd Indian Armoured Brigade)[5]
  • 3 Independent Armored Brigade
  • 16 Independent Armored Brigade (Dec 1971 placed under 54th Inf Div)[5]
  • 84 Infantry Brigade
