"Kiss and Make Up" is a song by English singer Dua Lipa and South Korean girl group Blackpink from the super deluxe edition of Lipa's debut studio album, titled Dua Lipa: Complete Edition (2018). The song was written by Lipa and Chelcee Grimes. The song has been certified platinum in Australia, silver in United Kingdom and also gold in Italy. As of September 2019, the audio has received over 120 million views on YouTube and 300 million streams on Spotify.

Background and composition

"Kiss and Make Up" was announced by Lipa on 4 September 2018, alongside the announcement of the super deluxe edition of her debut album.[1] The song was written by Lipa and Chelcee Grimes. It was produced by Mathieu Jomphe-Lepine, Marc Vincent, Teddy Park and Banx & Ranx.

In an interview with GQ, Lipa revealed that after "Kiss and Make Up" was left off the tracklist of the standard version of the album, the songwriter Grimes pitched it to other singers, Demi Lovato, Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus. Grimes later commented about the song, "For [Lipa] it was an important record, because it was just me and her and then we brought on the Blackpink girls."[2]

Commercial performance

"Kiss and Make Up" debuted at No. 36 on the UK Singles Chart, making Blackpink the first K-pop girl group to reach the top 40 on the chart.[4] The song debuted at No. 93 on the US Billboard Hot 100 with first-week sales of 11,000 copies, becoming Blackpink's second entry on the chart and Lipa's seventh.[5] As of September 2019, it has been certified platinum in Australia, gold in Italy and Silver in the United Kingdom. It has also topped the charts in Malaysia and Singapore.

Live performances

"Kiss and Make Up" was a part of Blackpink's setlist for all stages of their In Your Area World Tour. Dua Lipa joined the group in performing the song at their concert in Newark on 1 May 2019.[6]
