The festival features competitive juried categories including narrative feature films, short films and documentary films. Additional categories include: music, animation and military genres.

The inaugural 2017 event kicked off on February 10 with a Gala at the Lafayette Hotel, Swim Club & Bungalows and ran through February 19 with a closing awards ceremony at The Gallery on February 25. During the event, the festival had 21 separate screenings that included 15 feature films and short films from the San Diego International Film Festival, GI Film Festival San Diego, San Diego Asian Film Festival, 48 Hour Film Project San Diego, San Diego Latino Film Festival and the Horrible Imaginings Film Festival.
