Samsaram (English: Family) is a 1988 Telugu, drama film, produced by Sakhamuuri Ramachandra Rao on SR Films banner and directed by Relangi Narasimha Rao.[2] Starring Sobhan Babu, Jaya Prada, Sharada, Rajendra Prasad, Rajani in the lead roles and music composed by Raj-Koti.[3] The film is remake of Tamil Movie Thaaiku Oru Thaalaattu (1986). The film recorded as Super Hit at the box office.[4]

Plot

Raja Shekaram (Shobhan Babu) a strict & disciplined industrialist who leads a happy family life with his wife Lakshmi (Sharada) & 3 children. Raja Shekaram's elder son Hari Babu (Hari Prasad) & daughter Radha (Varalakshmi) are well educated and moves according to his footsteps. But his second son Ravi Babu (Rajendra Prasad) is an easy going guy and spend life with joy. He is not even educated and performs worker job in his father's factory that's why Raja Shekaram's thinks him as a useless son and looks him low. Ravi loves a poor girl Gowri (Rajani), who is an orphan with the help of their family well-wisher Gopalam (Gollapudi Maruthi Rao), Ravi keeps Gowri as a servant in their house. Meanwhile, Raja Shekaram fixes an alliance to Radha with a rich & well-educated guy Kumar (Sudhakar). At the same time, he comes to know regarding the love affair of Ravi & Gowri and he orders them to leave the house. Ravi moves out and marries her. Parallelly, Raja Shekaram performs Radha marriage with Kumar. Meanwhile, labor problems arise in Raja Shekaram's factory, the union leader Seshagiri / Seshu (Prasad Babu) drags Ravi in between and creates disputes between father & son. The Govt appoints a special labor officer Padmavathi (Jayaprada) to solve the case. Now there is a twist in the story she is none other than Raja Shekaram's ex-lover and he is shocked to see her. Padmavathi comes closer to Ravi and takes care of him as her own son.

After some time, Raja Shekaram reveals his past to Lakshmi that he had loved Padmavathi in his college days but due to certain critical situations to perform his dumb sister's marriage he had to marry Lakshmi. After Knowing the truth, Lakshmi meets Padmavathi and feels sorry for her husband but the only thing that suffers her is that her husband has hidden the truth from her and she dies out of that depression. After her death, Raja Shekaram becomes completely alone. Padmavathi also leaves the city saying a final goodbye to Raja Shekaram. After that, Raja Shekaram moves to his elder son Hari Babu's house but the entire family is so busy that they don't have time to spend with him. So, he comes back, till then his son-in-law Kumar occupies his house and throws him out. At that time, Ravi comes to his protection when Raja Shekaram understands virtue & greatness of his son and moves along with him. Finally, the movie ends on a happy note by Raja Shekaram spending his remaining life with Ravi & Gowri.
