This is a proposed route for many years. Just like Lonavla many people travel from Daund to Pune City for work. This route was proposed for the convenience of people of Daund and the villages on this route. However many years have passed since this proposal but this service does not operate even today. Instead of suburban trains four shuttle trains operate on this route between Pune and Daund and through trains like Pune-Manmad passenger, Pune-Nizamabad passenger and two shuttle trains between Pune to Solapur are useful for people on this route to access Pune City. From March 2017 three DEMU have started to operate to Daund from Pune and viz. Pune - Baramati DEMU also pass from this section.[4] There is one passenger and one DEMU from Pune to Baramati and Pune - Baramati passenger. Two set of DEMU operate on Daund - Baramati Section. There will soon be EMU trains running from Pune to Baramati and Pune to Daund as the section is fully electrified .

Proposed Plans

The citizens have been demanding Pune - Daund Suburban Service for many years. According to the 2010-11 Budget, proposals were as follows:

  • To build separate platforms for Pune - Lonavala / Talegaon services and increase the frequency to 30 min during peak hours and 45 min other time.[5]
  • Introduction of Shuttle Service on Pune - Saswad Road Station - Jejuri station / Nira station / Satara Sector. This will operate every 3 hours with 2/3 wagons for goods.
  • Third track for Pune - Lonavala Section.[6] (Demand survey accepted in Budget 2011 - 12)
  • To increase Two terminals on Pune - Lonavala and Pune - Daund Sections.
  • To start suburban service on Pune - Rajgurunagar station (Proposed) patch after completion of Pune - Nasik Road, railway for connectivity with New Pune International Airport.
  • To construct a ring rail parallel to proposed Pune Ring Road for good suburban transport.
  • To start local trains from Shivajinagar to Kurla.
  • to start fast local between lonavala and daund

New EMU Terminal
