New York's 5th State Senate district

New York's 5th State Senate district is one of 63 districts in the New York State Senate. It has been represented by Democratic Senator James Gaughran since 2019. Gaughran defeated longtime Republican Senator Carl Marcellino in a 2018 rematch after narrowly losing to Marcellino in 2016.

Geography

District 5 covers much of Long Island's North Shore in Nassau County and Suffolk County, including northern Huntington and Oyster Bay, as well as the city of Glen Cove.[3]

The district is located entirely within U.S. congressional district 3, and overlaps with New York State Assembly districts 10, 12, 13, 15, and 19.[4]
