Jiulong County

Gyézil County (Tibetan: བརྒྱད་ཟིལ། / བརྒྱད་ཟུར།, Wylie: brgyad zil / brgyad zur ), also Jiulong County (simplified Chinese: 九龙县; traditional Chinese: 九龍縣); is a county located in southeastern Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan province, People's Republic of China. With a population of 52 thousand, mainly Tibetans, Hans, and Yis, it contains one town and 17 townships.

For the river in southern Fujian, see Jiulong River. Jiulong is also the Mandarin-based transcription of the Chinese name of Kowloon.

Geography

Due to its elevation, Jiulong County has a subtropical highland climate (Köppen Cwb), with strong monsoonal influences; winters are frosty and summers warm with frequent rain. The monthly 24-hour average temperature ranges from 1.1 °C (34.0 °F) in December and January to 15.1 °C (59.2 °F) in July, while the annual mean is 8.93 °C (48.1 °F). Over 75% of the annual precipitation of 786 mm (30.9 in) occurs from June through September. With monthly percent possible sunshine ranging from 32% in July to 58% in January, the county seat receives 1,983 hours of bright sunshine annually. Diurnal temperature variation is large, averaging 14.4 °C (25.9 °F) annually.
