Shamrock, Missouri

Shamrock is an unincorporated community in eastern Callaway County, in the U.S. state of Missouri.[1] The community is on Missouri Route B two miles west of the Loutre River. Auxvasse is ten miles to the west, Montgomery City is about nine miles east and Williamsburg is five miles south.[2]

History

A post office called Shamrock was established in 1833, and remained in operation until 1954.[3] The community was named after the shamrock, since a large share of the first settlers were natives of Ireland.[4] Its former post office was sought by those in the region to mail their letters on St Patrick's Day with a 'Shamrock' postmark.
