List of Florida area codes

This is a list of area codes in the state of Florida.

Background

When the first area code plan was introduced in 1947, the entire state was given the area code 305. In 1953, the area code 813 was introduced for the western coast of Florida, and 904 was introduced for northern Florida in 1965. In 1988, area code 407 was introduced for the Orlando area.

Many of these new area codes have been introduced in the last two decades, as a result of city expansion throughout Florida. There are currently seventeen area codes serving Florida.

An eighteenth area code, 689, will overlay Orange County, Seminole County, Osceola County, Lake County, and Volusia County in May 2019. 321 will not be affected. [1] This area code was originally reserved by the Florida Public Service Commission in 2011.[2]
