KQFC is a commercial radio station located in Boise, Idaho, broadcasting on 97.9 FM. KQFC airs a classic country music format and is owned by Cumulus Media, which also owns fellow country sister station KIZN.

Station history

From 1960 until 1985, 97.9 held the call sign KBOI-FM[1] and to this day, remains a sister station to AM 670 KBOI. KBOI-TV was once a sister station to 97.9 KBOI-FM.

The station is anchored by its morning show from 5:30am to 10am weekdays, "The Q Waking Crew with Cory and Debi". Cory and Debi are Cory Mikhals and Debi McCallister, longtime radio veterans who arrived in Boise in August 2002 from the Monterey, California market. Other announcers include Spencer Burke (mid-days), Tommy Collins (PM drive), Scott Cruize (evenings), and Ron O'Brian (weekends).

In October 2011, Cumulus took over the ownership of Citadel's Boise operations, thus placing KQFC in the same cluster as KIZN. The new change in ownership meant major cuts in its airstaff at KQFC, as McCallister and Burke were let go from their contracts as part of a reduction in its workforce throughout the company. It is also speculated that because of Cumulus having two Country outlets in Boise that either KIZN or KQFC will be poised for a possible format flip in the near future.[2]

On May 24, 2013, KQFC rebranded as "Nash FM 97.9". The change resulted in the addition of the nationally syndicated "America's Morning Show with Blair Garner", replacing the "Q Waking Crew with Cory Mikhals" after more than 10 years, in February 2014. Mikhals was relocated to sister station KIZN, replacing the long-running "Mee in the Morning" hosts Kevin and Brenda Mee.

On April 3, 2017, KQFC dropped the "Nash FM" branding and switched to classic country.[3]
