Hamstead Marshall Pit

Hamstead Marshall Pit was designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in 1995. It is based in Hamstead Marshall in Berkshire.[1][2] It is located within the North Wessex Downs.[3]

Geography

The 0.5 acres site[4] contains the most extensive and best preserved river terraces of the River Kennet. The terraces date back to the Ice Age geomorphology, which raised the land 47 metres above the present-day Kennet river course.[4][5]
