Cannoncourt Farm Pit

Cannoncourt Farm Pit is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) on the Northern outskirts of Maidenhead in Berkshire.[1] It is known for its collection of Paleolithic artifacts.[2]


Geography

The site is 0.3 hectares in size.[3]

History

This site was formerly known as Cooper's Pit, Maidenhead SSSI.[4]

At the site has been discovered the largest hand axe of the paleolithic era in Britain.[5]

In 1954 the site was designated a site of special scientific interest (SSSI).[4]
