Cinema One (also called C1 and stylized as C1NEMAONE) is a global pay TV channel targeted to Filipino audience. It is available globally in direct-to-home satellite, cable, IPTV, online video streaming, video on demand, and other over-the-top content platforms (often bundled with The Filipino Channel). It is owned and operated by Creative Programs, a subsidiary of Filipino media conglomerate ABS-CBN Corporation. The programming of the network includes a line-up of mainstream and independent local and foreign films, film related programming, and original made for television films.[1]

History

The channel started on June 12, 1994 when i-Channel merged with Classic 21 to form Sky 1, which was launched with morning schedules containing public affairs, business and mostly Filipino movies. Seeing audience growth in the movies being shown, On June 29, 1998, Sky 1 became Pinoy Blockbuster Channel wherein programming was reformatted to show series of movies produced by local productions. Supported by its large and growing avid viewers, on May 20, 2001, Pinoy Blockbuster Channel became Cinema One, this time showing not only local movies but foreign films as well.[1]

On May 19, 2001, Cinema One was launched as a 24-hour movie channel targeted to the Filipino audience. Its film inventory covers all genres from romance, drama, comedy, action, horror and fantasy films produced by the country’s top movie outfits. Original programs such as Inside The Cinema with Boy Abunda and the weekly Cinemanews were also produced to cater movie lover audiences.[1]

Cinema One immediately grew popularity and eventually gained acceptance. In 2005, Cinema One ventured into original digital movie productions under its annual Cinema One Originals film festival which showcase and grants funding to independent film makers in the country. Among the films that has been produced under Cinema One Originals banner are Confessional (2007), Huling Balyan ng Buhi, Rome & Juliet, Tambolista (2007), Mater Dolorosa (2012), Yanggaw, Sa North Diversion Road (2005), Imburnal (2008), Dose, Altar, Baybayin (2012), That Thing Called Tadhana (2014), Ang Babaeng Humayo, 2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten, and Baka Bukas.[1]

In May 2004, as part of ABS-CBN’s global marketing strategy, Cinema One was launched globally to reach out and give quality entertainment to the Filipino communities in North America, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. The new face of Cinema One with the tagline, “Ang Buhay Natin, Parang Sine” ("Our Life Is Like the Movies"), reinforces its affinity with the movie-loving audience who tune in to experience larger than life entertainment on the small screen.

In August 2011, the new logo with rainbow chrome became the new logo for the new network. On April 17, 2013, Cinema One launched a new redesigned logo as C1 along with a new graphic package.

On June 4, 2014, as part of their 20th year anniversary, Cinema One launched a music video entitled "Laging Kasama" ("Always With You"), sung by Toni Gonzaga and Piolo Pascual.
