Betai is a village in Tehatta I CD Block in Tehatta subdivision of Nadia district in the state of West Bengal, India.

Geography

Betai is on the India-Bangladesh border. Meherpur Sadar Upazila of Meherpur District of Bangladesh is across the border.[1]

Demographics

As per the 2011 Census of India, Betai had a total population of 20,774, of which 10,761 (52%) were males and 10,013 (48%) were females. Population below 6 years was 2,063. The total number of literates in Betai was 14,207 (75.93% of the population over 6 years).[2]

Transport

SH 11, running from Mahammad Bazar (in Birbhum district) to Ranaghat (in Nadia district) passes through Betai. SH 14 originates from Betai and runs to Dubrajpur (in Birbhum district).[3][4]

Education

A general degree college, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar College was established at Betai in 1973. A local educationist Haran Chandra Biswas played a major role in establishing the college. It is affiliated to the University of Kalyani. It offers degree courses in arts and commerce.[5] There is also a High school named Betai High School.
