Bencorr (Irish: Binn Chorr, meaning "Pointed Peak") is a mountain in the Twelve Bens range in Connemara, Ireland.

Geography

With a height of 711 metres (2,333 ft) it is the second highest mountain in the Twelve Bens after Benbaun and the 101st highest summit in Ireland. It is the second highest mountain in Galway. Writer and cartographer Tim Robinson gave this mountain the alternative name of Binn an Choire Mhóir or peak of the big corrie.

Conservation

The mountain, along with Twelve Bens range, is part of the Connemara National Park (although it is not inside the park's border).

Rock climbing

The twelve bens have a number of rock climbing locations, the most notable of which is the "Gleann Eighneach" valley and the north face of Benncorr (also known as Binn an tSaighdiúra), with the well-regarded routes of Carrot Ridge (275m D), and Seventh Heaven (330m HS).[2]
